Not him but I usually use big/big after a steep climb descending, it keeps maximum chain tension and keeps the chain high against chainstay whack and I can quickly drop to the small chainring when I start the next climb

What’s the general opinion on night riding and what’s your go-to lighting system?

I love night riding, and at this time of year it basically becomes necessary as we lose daylight in the northern hemisphere. When riding trails I run an 1100 lumen Cygolite metro on the bars and an 850 lumen expelion on my helmet with a bontrager flare rear light on my seat post for occasional road transits.

For bike paths I use the metro on the bars with a light and motion vis 360 on my helmet. The vis 360 is a fantastic light that I really recommend. It lets you spotlight anything you want and has a built in rear helmet light with side lights as well.

For road riding it’s the cygolite/vis 360/flare on solid and a Garmin Varia rear radar unit. Make fun all you want of my “lit up like a Christmas tree” setup…I don’t want to die because some cagey doesn’t see me.

I run my ABCs every day as my preflight check.
Air, Brakes, Chain, and suspension (optional, that's why it's a small s in ABCs) Something as simple as improper ABCs could lead to serious crash and possibly death, especially the way I ride. So always run those ABCs.

Well driving is generally ass in the city so most cars go 40km/hr or less here whis is pretty slow compared to our 80km+ county roads.
As long as you lock up and don't leave your bike out over night theft shouldn't be a worry.
You'll probably want to map out the good bike lanes before you go or you'll just be doing trial and error where the good spots are to bike. If you can transit in with your bike by train or bus than bike I'd recommend that unless your fairly close.

Sounds like you are asking how to take a trip into the city as a cyclist.

Book a hotel close to a major park or open area that has cycle friendly roads. If you just want to drive in for the day start at the park or a major memorial or landmark. That way your car is safe and it is harder to get lost.

Im a suburban guy so I do the opposite: drive out to a cool country town, park at the main square and ride my bike around the town for a few hours.

- more variety of food but you'll just end up going to Burger King anyway because all the "exotic" food costs $80 per person per meal and make you shit blood
- bars and clubs and whatever if you're that kind of person
- strip bars and clubs and whatever if you're that kind of person
- much much less sense of "community" if you're a faggot who cares about shit like that
- more bike paths, but honestly the streets and highways are still better places to ride
- to do literally any errand takes at least 30 minutes by car, at least an hour by bike, and at least 3 hours by bus

I want shorthand for that, so that I can say something brief and intelligible.
This is DEFINITELY a style of road in the USA, and it's not a fuzzy concept either. There are some grey areas, but there are also unmistakable examples and a consistent design philosophy. So it makes sense to have a word to describe this concept.

Even if you don't think there's enough of a distinction between road types in the USA to warrant official categories, it's still useful to have a word to describe that set of characteristics. Not every object has to perfectly follow a set of characteristics for you to want a word to refer to that set of characteristics.

There was no word for this concept so a word was chosen. I'm sorry you don't like the word chosen, but unfortunately for you enough other people want to discuss that topic and a word was chosen. That word was stroad.

I hope you can accept this unfortunate state of being we're in. The word goes away as soon as we have better streets and better roads, so I hope to see you at the polls voting for transit-focused candidates so we can put the ugly mess behind us.

Primarily aesthetics. It was specifically designed to mimic the dome rail cars that were super popular at the time, back when passenger rail was still classy and aspirational.
